City of NO says they were supplying Superdome

This is actually good news, based on news reports, I had been afraid there was no food and water at the Superdome. I'm not sure how successful their attempt at getting the poor of NO to be self-sufficient was though.

"Mayeaux, who is the deputy director of the state’s Office Of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said that the state began shipping its own stores of food and water from the Pineville staging area down to New Orleans two days after the storm, on August 31st.

The supplies were sent to the Superdome and Zephyr Field and then spread throughout the city, said Mayeaux. Although the state did not start moving food to the Superdome until the Wednesday after the storm, Mayeaux said there was adequate food at the facility, noting that people had been instructed to bring their own supplies. There was also some food that had been put there before the hurricane, he said."

Well now - those po' folks show a lack of initiative, if I do say. Imagine them not bringing supplies as instructed. They should be ashamed of themselves. The city was kind enough to provide them a safe haven from the Almighty's fury, weren't they? No matter if it was the end of the month, surely those who live paycheck to paycheck should of had the common sense to bring whatever crackers, cheese and dill pickles left in their refrigerators, not to mention a couple tupperware pitchers full of water to see them through. After all they'd get paid on Thursday, the 1st. That's only 4 days away! They'd be home by Tuesday at the latest, just in time to take a nap. And besides - who could've predicted that gangs of men, angry and perhaps "jonesing", would roam the arena looking for the weak and vulnerable among the backed up toilet water and soaken flooring, smellin' like an overused outhouse in August after a family picnic by the lake.

Perhaps you overlooked the first three paragraphs of the article entitled “Red Cross was told to wait”

“The American Red Cross asked to be able to bring food
and water supplies into New Orleans three days after
Hurricane Katrina hit the city, but were denied by
Louisiana National Guard, officials said Thursday.

Vic Howell, the head of the Capital Area chapter of
the Red Cross, said that the group asked Col. Jay
Mayeaux for permission to go into the city Sept. 1,
but was told to wait. Howell said that when he talked
to Mayeaux on Sept. 2 he was told that they were
then concentrating on search and rescue and getting
everybody out of the city.

“He asked us not to go in and we abided by that
request,” said Howell, who added that the Red Cross
was supplying food and water throughout the
metropolitan area, just not in the city itself.”

See – those folks did as they were told. I’m sure a few more babies died, dehydrated, no doubt and those in need of insulin mostly likely perished as well, but what better way to cleanse the city of those who refuse to do as instructed?

I read the the article above this one, too:
Vice President Cheney says no new taxes
http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakingtp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_09_08.html#078235

Vice President Dick Cheney said new taxes are not the answer to finance the Hurricane Katrina disaster effort, as he assessed the now infamous 17th Street Canal levee early Thursday evening... Cheney said he was impressed by the job of the Corps at the levee site. "You've got to recognize the severity of what Mother Nature did to us," Cheney said as he stood several yards away from a West End neighborhood that was submerged in water up to rooftops..."We lost everything at once . . . communications, power grid, infrastructure."

Cheney said he was impressed with the way people have come together for the relief and recovery effort..."They have done wonderful things," Cheney said. When questioned, Cheney said he had not heard complaints from those directly affected by Katrina about bipartisanship affecting the hurricane relief effort.

Apparently he doesn’t watch TV either....but, things are looking up!! Even though the severity of Mother Nature finally materialized as predicted by the learned citizens of Louisiana and destroyed the city in the blink of an eye, you can all breathe a collective non-partisan sigh of relief that FINALLY the Bush Administration is allotting the Army Corps of Engineers the long awaited funding they have pleaded for to reinforce the levees.

God Bless “em!

Nice try.  So everyone is owed everything?  I guess you are as well.  Here's a hint.  Dont come to me to collect.  I owe you nothing!

But I will give to the ones who lost a lot.  And dont demand.
